National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has stated that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been vindicated following the reappearance of blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia, who had been reported missing since June 21.
Addressing attendees at the Women’s Economic Empowerment Forum in Taita Taveta County, Ichung’wah noted that the incident had sparked widespread speculation, with many Kenyans casting doubt on DCI Director Mohammed Amin’s initial assertion that the agency had not arrested or detained Ndiangui.
“Last week, the country was awash with reports of a young man allegedly abducted. His family moved to court, and DCI was ordered to produce him. Throughout, the DCI maintained they had not arrested him, but many dismissed their position,” Ichung’wah said.
He further explained that the blogger appeared before the court on Thursday and confirmed he had not been abducted effectively supporting the DCI’s earlier claims.
“The DCI had made it clear they were also searching for the young man. Now that he has surfaced and clarified that he was not in custody, their position stands vindicated,” Ichung’wah added.
Ndiangui’s disappearance prompted a court case filed by his family, alleging abduction and state involvement. With his return, the court has issued an order barring police from arresting him.
Ichung’wah expressed concern over the public’s quick readiness to assume state agencies were involved, urging caution in such sensitive matters.
