Portuguese international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota has died following a car accident in Spain. He was 28 years old.

The fatal crash occurred on the A-52 highway in Zamora province, according to multiple Portuguese and British media reports. Jota was reportedly travelling with his brother, André Jota, a fellow footballer aged 26, when their vehicle veered off the road.

The devastating news comes just weeks after Jota celebrated his wedding to longtime partner Rute Cardoso in Porto marking what had seemed a joyful new chapter in his life.

Jota signed for Liverpool in September 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a transfer worth over £40 million. During his time at Anfield, he established himself as a dynamic and reliable presence in the attack, admired for his technical ability, work rate, and decisive goal-scoring instincts.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the football community, with tributes expected from teammates, fans, clubs, and international football bodies who recognised Jota as one of Portugal’s brightest talents of his generation.
