The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will on Monday, September 29, roll out the next phase of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), giving Kenyans another chance to enlist or update their details ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The launch will be flagged off at Mashuuru Primary School in Kajiado East constituency before spreading to all constituency offices across the country, save for areas preparing for by-elections.
According to the Commission, the exercise is part of its ongoing duty to maintain an updated voter register an essential ingredient of credible and inclusive elections.
“This exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections. It is particularly directed towards young people who have recently attained 18 years, and all citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information,” IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said.
During the drive, Kenyans will be able to:
- Register as new voters
- Correct or update personal details
- Transfer their registration to a different polling station or constituency
- Verify their voter information
To qualify, one must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 and above, possess a valid ID or passport, and must not have registered before. Those convicted of election offences within the past five years or declared to be of unsound mind remain ineligible.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has called on Kenyans to seize the opportunity. Speaking at the Jesus Exaltation Centre in Kajiado County, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka rallied especially the youth to turn out in large numbers, saying voter registration will be critical in shaping the outcome of the 2027 polls.
