Equity Group Holdings PLC Managing Director James Mwangi, has been appointed Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya by President William Ruto. Briefly after awarding a charter to the institution the President said he believes in Mwangi’s leadership.
“I was very specific when I told CS Machogu who the Chancellor for Open University of Kenya should be because this is a bottom up institution.”
The university, leveraging the country’s digital infrastructure, is anticipated to charge fees ranging from Ksh10,400 to Ksh10,900 per module, depending on the chosen course.
The president also appointed Prof Ezra Maritim named the council chair of the institution. Mwangi was tasked with spearheading the institution, which will be domiciled at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Arts and Technology (JKUAT).
The career banker was directed to ensure that the university produces some of the best professionals and innovators in the country. “This institution is now open for those who wanted to access affordable and convenient academic programmes in the country.
See you in class by September 2023,” President Ruto stated. Open university of Kenya is the first-of-its-kind Virtual University in Kenya.
