Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been formally inducted into Luo cultural ranks, receiving the revered title of elder and the traditional name “Odhiambo” during a vibrant ceremony in Migori County.
The event, held at Ong’er grounds in Nyatike Constituency, unfolded alongside an economic empowerment forum led by the Deputy President. Community leaders and residents gathered to witness the cultural recognition of Kindiki, who was robed in Luo ceremonial attire, presented with a symbolic spear and shield, and offered a traditional seat symbolizing leadership and protection.
The name “Odhiambo” was bestowed upon him in reflection of his calm and diplomatic nature qualities the Luo community values in leadership.
In his address, the Deputy President outlined government initiatives aimed at transforming the region, including infrastructure development and youth empowerment programs. He also urged fellow leaders to draw inspiration from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s long-standing commitment to national unity and selfless leadership.
Kindiki was flanked by a high-powered delegation including Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed (widely known as “Full Network”), Nyatike MP Tom Odege, Senator Eddie Oketch, and President Ruto’s private aide Farouk Kibet.
This ceremony mirrors recent similar honors accorded to President William Ruto and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, underscoring growing cultural diplomacy and symbolic unity gestures within the region.
