Police in Nairobi’s Parklands area have arrested a man accused of posing as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier and swindling unsuspecting citizens under the pretense of helping them join the military.

According to investigators, the suspect who had allegedly promoted himself from an ordinary civilian to a “KDF brigadier” without ever stepping onto a parade ground had been extorting money from desperate youths by issuing fake recruitment letters to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret.

Acting on a tip-off, detectives tracked and detained him at his rented apartment in Kilimani, where he was found dressed in full Kenya Air Force uniform.

A search of the house uncovered several suspicious items: documents branded with the Ministry of Defence logo, six counterfeit admission letters all carrying the same serial number, seven fingerprint forms, a Yilmaz Defence Industry ammunition manual, and other materials believed to be used in the scam.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned the public to remain alert and avoid fraudulent shortcuts in the military recruitment process, stressing that genuine KDF enlistment is free, merit-based, and transparent.
