Mombasa County has temporarily shut down all public beaches for two days, starting immediately, following a safety alert from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir made the announcement on Friday, May 23, after weather experts warned of powerful southerly winds and unusually large waves expected along the Coast. In response, the county government has also suspended all ocean-based activities including fishing and water sports until further notice.
Construction projects in the area haven’t been spared either. Due to the heightened risk from strong winds, contractors have been told to pause all work and make sure their sites are secured.
To keep everyone updated, the county will release daily reports on the situation. Governor Nassir has urged both residents and tourists to follow the safety guidelines without exception. He also assured the public that the county is coordinating with emergency and maritime teams to protect lives and property during this period.
