In the heart of Kwale County, a new chapter in sustainable agriculture is unfolding. Governor Fatuma Achani has launched a bold livestock initiative, distributing over 600 Galla bucks to local farmers—a move aimed at transforming rural livelihoods and building climate resilience from the ground up.

The project, which rolled out in Kasemeni and Mwavumbo wards, provides farmers with high-quality breeding goats known for their adaptability and productivity. It’s a step toward smarter agriculture, tailored for a changing climate and a shifting economy.

“This is about securing the future of our communities,” Governor Achani said during the launch. “We’re not just giving out goats; we’re investing in resilience, in food security, and in the prosperity of our people.”

Backed by the County Climate Change Fund under the FLLoCA program, and in collaboration with the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) project, the initiative blends local leadership with national and international support.

Groups like Mwangaza Self Help Group, which received 108 Galla goats, are among the early beneficiaries of this ambitious effort. The goal: improve livestock breeds, increase income, and build farming systems that can thrive despite the challenges of climate change.

With Governor Achani at the helm, Kwale is steadily carving a path toward a more resilient and self-sufficient agricultural future.
