Mwea MP Mary Maingi has become the latest public official to seek legal redress over online harassment, after a man was charged in court on Monday for allegedly sending her abusive messages via WhatsApp.
Joseph Muiruri Kamau, 34, appeared before Wang’uru Law Courts in Kirinyaga County, where prosecutors said he sent indecent and offensive content to the MP’s phone on March 27, 2025.
Kamau, accused of knowingly using his phone to send words meant to offend and emotionally disturb the legislator, denied the charge before Principal Magistrate Martha Opanga. He was released on a Ksh 100,000 bond or cash bail of Ksh 30,000.
