The circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi have grown murkier by the day and investigators say they are hitting roadblocks at every turn.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that five individuals have so far been questioned and have provided statements in connection with the MP’s strange disappearance and sudden reappearance. But the investigation appears to be treading water, as detectives say they’ve been denied direct access to the MP, who is currently receiving treatment at Karen Hospital under tight wraps.

The backstory is as bizarre as it is alarming. Koimburi, who is under investigation for alleged land fraud, was reportedly found dumped at a coffee farm in Juja — a claim that has since stirred Parliament and drawn sharp calls for accountability from the Opposition.

According to Kanja, police first became aware of the case through an amateur video that began circulating widely online on Monday, 26 May. The footage appeared to show the MP abandoned in a remote, unkempt patch of farmland. But when officers visited the scene and cross-referenced it with the video, inconsistencies emerged. The terrain and road layout simply didn’t match. The caretaker of the farm, owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, told officers he had seen nothing unusual.

As detectives raced to gather information, their efforts were frustrated once again. At Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru where Koimburi was initially taken before being transferred to Nairobi — staff reportedly declined to share key details, including the type of treatment administered. This has made it difficult for the police to determine whether the MP was indeed injured, and if so, how seriously.

With public scrutiny intensifying and political temperatures rising, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since deployed a specialized team supported by forensic experts to try and piece together what really happened. Their task: cut through speculation and find out whether this was a staged incident, a criminal act, or something else entirely.

For now, one thing is clear: the case has only raised more questions than answers.

And with more witnesses expected to be summoned including the MP himself investigators are hoping that the silence surrounding the case will eventually break.
