A domestic conflict in Kiou village, Makueni County, escalated into deadly violence this week, leaving a man dead and a woman seriously injured in what authorities are calling a brutal and senseless act.
According to Mukaa Deputy County Commissioner Buxton Mayabi, the suspect ho had separated from his wife stormed her family home in Wathini sub-location armed with a machete. Without warning, he reportedly attacked the woman, inflicting several serious injuries.
When her father stepped in to stop the assault, the suspect turned on him, fatally wounding him in the process. The father-in-law was rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His daughter is still being treated at the same facility and is in stable condition.
After fleeing the scene, the suspect later surrendered himself to officers at Sultan Hamud Police Station. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
“This is a painful example of what unresolved domestic issues can lead to,” said Mayabi, who urged families to seek nonviolent ways of resolving conflict. “No disagreement should ever cost a life.”
The body of the deceased has been moved to the Sultan Hamud Hospital mortuary. Meanwhile, detectives are gathering statements as they try to piece together the timeline and motive behind the attack.
