Relegation-threatened Nantes pulled off a gritty performance on Tuesday night, holding Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw in a match that mattered far more to the hosts than their superstar visitors.

With PSG already crowned league winners and eyes set on a looming Champions League semi-final, it was Nantes who looked like the hungrier side when it mattered most. Despite going behind to a first-half strike from Vitinha, they refused to crumble and their persistence paid off late in the second half when Brazilian midfielder Douglas Augusto fired home the equaliser with just six minutes left on the clock.

The goal sparked relief and belief among the home crowd at Stade de la Beaujoire, who know that every point could be vital in their fight to avoid the drop.

While PSG pushed for a winner and nearly had it when Goncalo Ramos hit the bar in stoppage time, Nantes held their ground to snatch a result that could prove decisive in the relegation race.

For PSG, the result was a footnote in a season of dominance. For Nantes, it could be a turning point.
