In a move aimed at sharpening its bid in order to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the government has today announced the decision to in cooperate the renovation of four key stadiums to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The goal is to elevate these sports facilities to international standards, aligning Kenya with its East African neighbors in the collaborative Pamoja bid.
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba said the government is committed to ensure the project is completed on time.
“We are doing this because of time, we are extremely pressed for time. We must beat very strict deadlines in delivery, “He said
“We are also doing this because we want discipline and efficiency, top tier discipline and efficiency. We want precision and we believe that the ministry of defence ticks all those boxes,”
He highlighted that the decision to involve the KDF in this endeavor was part of a comprehensive plan to meet the infrastructure prerequisites before CAF’s much-anticipated announcement on the host nation for the 2027 African Cup of Nations, scheduled for September 27, 2023
Namwamba said he’s sure the Pamoja Bid will be acknowledged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The stadiums targeted for renovations are Kasarani stadium,Nyayo stadium,Talanta sports city located at Jamhuri grounds and the Kipchoge Keino stadium.
The move aims to ensure that these venues meet the stringent requirements set forth by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for hosting major tournaments like AFCON.
Kenya, in collaboration with its East African neighbors, Uganda and Tanzania, has submitted a joint bid to host AFCON in 2027.
