Investigators have arrested another key suspect linked to the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to 12.

The latest suspect, identified as Amos Barasa, was apprehended on Tuesday, May 13, in Nairobi’s Kibera area. Police believe Barasa, a boda boda rider by trade, played a central role in the crime by providing transport to the gunman involved in the assassination.

Authorities say Barasa used his motorcycle a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W to trail the MP’s vehicle and later ferry the killer away from the scene. The motorbike reportedly matches the one captured on CCTV footage near Parliament at the time of the incident.

Upon arrest, detectives recovered the bike believed to have been used in the escape. According to investigators, Barasa has a history of criminal activity and is suspected to be part of a syndicate that works with armed gangs while posing as a regular motorcycle taxi operator.

During questioning, Barasa is said to have confessed to his involvement in the plot and revealed that he was paid Ksh.50,000 for aiding the operation.

Police are continuing to piece together the events leading up to the MP’s murder, as pressure mounts to bring all those responsible to justice.
