Kenyan music heavyweight Nyashinski is gearing up for a major moment. On September 19, he will release Yariasu, his long-awaited sophomore album a project he says is not just music, but a vision.
To set the tone, Nyashinski dropped P.I.C (Partner in Crime) on Friday, the second single off the album and a track that doubles as a manifesto. The record opens with the bold declaration, “I always knew East Africa would be on top of the world,” a line that frames the entire project as an audacious bid to take East African sound to the global stage.
Yariasu arrives five years after Lucky You (2020), his introspective debut that became a cultural time capsule during the COVID-19 pandemic. That album, which featured no collaborations, resonated with fans for its themes of hope and resilience in an uncertain world.
This time, Nyashinski promises something bigger. “My fans have been patiently waiting for new music and with this album I wanted to give them more than just songs. I wanted to give them a vision,” he explained. “P.I.C is a celebration of love and unity, but it’s also a statement that East African music belongs on the world stage. Yariasu is me doubling down on that mission.”
The project already has strong institutional backing. Sony Music Eastern Africa’s Head, Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha, described the release as a watershed moment. “Nyashinski is an artist who represents the very best of East African music authentic, innovative, and globally resonant,” she said. “With Yariasu, he builds on the foundation laid by Lucky You and positions himself as a cultural ambassador for the region. This release is not just about an album, it’s about putting East Africa firmly in the global music conversation.”
