Ferdinand Omanyala is sounding the alarm and calling for action. After helping Kenya make history by qualifying for the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, the continent’s fastest man says the moment demands more than celebration it demands commitment.
Kenya secured its place at the global showdown set for September in Tokyo during the World Relays in Guangzhou, China. Omanyala, speaking in the aftermath of the qualifying run, stressed that the team’s breakthrough must be met with a structured support system. Without it, he warns, their ambitions could falter.
“We’ve shown what we can do,” he said. “Now it’s about stepping things up. The country must invest in our preparation training camps, funding, technical support. What lies ahead is serious business, and we can’t approach it casually.”
Running alongside Boniface Mweresa, Meshack Babu, and Steve Odhiambo who powered home as anchor the Kenyan team delivered an electric performance in Heat 2. Finishing second behind Belgium with a time of 38.51 seconds, they secured automatic qualification and wrote a new chapter in the nation’s sprinting history.
With just months left until the Tokyo championships, Omanyala’s rallying cry is clear: Kenya’s sprint relay team has earned its place on the global stage. Now, it needs the tools to rise to the occasion.
