The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued a strong appeal to qualified students to submit their university applications, warning that time is quickly running out before the placement portal closes.
Despite 246,000 candidates attaining a Grade C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE exams, only 104,000 have so far applied to join university, leaving more than half of the eligible students at risk of missing out on government-sponsored slots.
“We are nearly getting to half of the total number of students, so we are urging those who have not been able to do so to apply, and they should not wait for the last minute to struggle and access the portal,” said John Oluoch, KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development.
The appeal follows a joint press briefing held on Thursday, April 17, by officials from the Ministry of Education, KUCCPS, and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), where they urged students to utilise the remaining two weeks to make their submissions.
Concerns have been mounting within the Ministry of Education over the slow response rate, particularly as many students risk missing critical funding opportunities tied to the placement process.
The officials emphasized that the application window is still open, but warned that waiting until the last moment could lead to system congestion or missed deadlines.
With the clock ticking, stakeholders are encouraging candidates and their guardians to act fast, ensuring every qualified student secures their spot in higher education.
