Parliament has today begun the vetting of President William Ruto’s nominees for Principal Secretary positions, launching a process that is being seen as a key test of the administration’s commitment to professionalism, merit, and effective governance.
The four-day exercise, which runs until Monday, April 7, is being conducted by departmental committees of the National Assembly. The hearings are expected to reveal not only the individual capacity of the nominees but also reflect the broader policy direction and priorities of the Ruto administration as it enters the next phase of its second term.
Among those appearing before MPs today is Aden Abdi, nominated for Principal Secretary in the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs. He is facing the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure from 10:00AM.
Stephen Isaboke, nominated for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, appeared before the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation at 9:30AM, where digital infrastructure and media independence featured prominently in the discussions.
Michael Lenasalon, who has been nominated for the Devolution docket, is being vetted by the Departmental Committee on Regional Development. His session comes amid renewed calls for equitable resource sharing between national and county governments.
In the health sector, Dr. Oluga Ouma is appearing before the Committee on Health as the nominee for Medical Services. At the same time, Ahmed Ibrahim is being vetted by the Committee on Administration and Internal Security for the post of Principal Secretary for National Government Coordination a docket central to the president’s push for efficient service delivery across the country.
Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, nominated for Science, Research, and Innovation, is appearing before the Committee on Education, while Jane Imbunya, the nominee for Public Service and Human Capital Development, is before the Labour Committee.
The Finance and National Planning Committee is handling two key dockets today Cyrell Wagunda for Public Investments and Assets Management, and Boniface Makokha, who is scheduled to appear at 12:00PM for the Economic Planning position.
Later in the day, Fikirini Jacobs and Regina Ombam nominated for the State Departments of Youth Affairs and Trade respectively are also expected to be vetted.
