President William Ruto has dismissed Justin Muturi as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, replacing him with Mbeere MP Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku. The decision, announced by Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, marks the culmination of months of friction between the two leaders.

Muturi had openly criticized the government over the abduction and killing of Gen Z protesters in 2024, an issue that hit close to home when his own son became a victim. His vocal stance led him to boycott Cabinet meetings, insisting that extrajudicial killings be addressed first.

Ruto, who had remained silent on the matter, finally broke his silence at a State House Iftar dinner, branding Muturi as “fairly incompetent.” He cited Muturi’s failure to establish the Muslim Endowment Fund (Waqf) during his tenure as Attorney General as one of his shortcomings.

Muturi’s sacking underscores the growing tension within Ruto’s administration, where dissent especially from senior officials is proving costly. His exit raises questions about the president’s tolerance for criticism and the broader implications for accountability in government.
