Safaricom PLC has reported a 7.3% rise in after-tax profit for the financial year ending March 2025, with net earnings climbing to Ksh 45.8 billion, up from Ksh 42.7 billion the previous year. The telco attributes this growth to a broad-based revenue surge, underscoring the resilience and performance of its core business.

Total revenue for the year hit Ksh 388.7 billion, marking a significant increase from the Ksh 349 billion posted in the previous financial year. The company’s CEO, Peter Ndegwa, credited the performance to strong execution, customer loyalty, and the company’s strategic direction.

Group service revenue rose by 10.8%, reaching Ksh 371.4 billion compared to Ksh 335.4 billion a year earlier. M-Pesa, the firm’s flagship mobile money platform, led the charge with a 15.1% increase in revenue, rising to Ksh 161.1 billion from Ksh 140 billion.

Mobile data revenue also saw impressive growth, surging 16.5% to Ksh 78.5 billion, while voice revenue posted a more modest 1.8% rise, reaching Ksh 81.9 billion.

Safaricom Kenya continues to be the backbone of the group’s performance, contributing 98% of the total revenue Ksh 381.2 billion while its Ethiopian operation reported Ksh 7.5 billion in revenue, reflecting early-stage traction in the new market.

Looking ahead, Ndegwa positioned the results as a stepping stone toward Safaricom’s long-term ambition. “These results are not just a snapshot of the past year, but a launchpad toward our 2030 vision of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-driven tech company,” he said, highlighting a future focused on innovation and regional expansion.
