Mohamed Salah is once again at the heart of English football’s spotlight. The Liverpool talisman leads a formidable list of six nominees for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, announced on Friday.

Salah, 33, was a driving force behind Liverpool’s Premier League title charge last season, amassing an extraordinary 29 goals and 18 assists. His remarkable consistency and impact on the pitch earned him the Football Writers’ Association’s top honour winning with a staggering 90 percent of the vote, the most dominant margin recorded in over two decades. Now, he’s widely tipped to add the PFA crown to his accolades.

Joining Salah in the running is fellow Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who impressed with his midfield dynamism. Arsenal’s Declan Rice also earns a nod after a standout season that saw him reach personal bests nine goals and ten assists in 52 appearances, anchoring the Gunners’ midfield with class and authority.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who recently bagged the PFA Young Player of the Year title for the 2023-24 season, makes the senior shortlist despite a turbulent year for the Blues. His inclusion surprised many, but his flashes of brilliance did not go unnoticed.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is another standout, netting 23 goals and playing a pivotal role in the club’s Champions League qualification and their long-awaited League Cup triumph their first major trophy in 56 years.

Completing the elite list is Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. In a season marred by inconsistency at Old Trafford, Fernandes was a rare beacon of creativity, contributing eight goals and ten assists in the league one of the few silver linings in a historically poor campaign for the Red Devils.

With the award spotlight now turned on this select group, all eyes are on whether Salah’s stellar campaign will see him crowned by his fellow professionals or whether another star might steal the show.
