The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert warning of strong winds expected to sweep across various parts of the country, particularly the coastal region, from Sunday through Tuesday morning.

In its latest advisory released on Sunday, May 25, the Department noted that the coastal belt and its adjacent waters will be most affected, with wind speeds forecasted to reach or exceed 14 meters per second (approximately 27.2 knots). These wind levels are considered hazardous, especially for small watercraft and lightweight structures.

The warning, which marks the third consecutive day of unsettled coastal weather, highlights significant risk for maritime activities. According to the weatherman, fishermen and beachgoers around the Indian Ocean coastline should exercise heightened caution, as the strong winds are expected to extend into offshore areas.

The Department further warned that the forceful winds are likely to agitate the ocean surface, potentially generating large, powerful waves. These conditions may increase the likelihood of small vessels capsizing and pose dangers to those venturing into the waters over the next 24 hours.

Residents, seafarers, and stakeholders along the coast are urged to stay informed through official updates and heed safety precautions during this period of heightened weather activity.
