A deadly confrontation unfolded early Monday when two suicide attackers targeted the headquarters of the Federal Constabulary in the north-western city of Peshawar. The assault left three security personnel dead and injured more than a dozen others.
According to reports shared with BBC Urdu, the assailants arrived heavily armed and attempted to force their way into the fortified compound. The facility sits inside one of the most secure zones in the city, an area layered with multiple security checks, making the attempted breach particularly alarming.
Witnesses described hearing two powerful blasts shortly after 08:00 local time, moments that sent shockwaves through the surrounding neighbourhood. Emergency teams quickly sealed off the site as they moved in to assist the injured five security officers and seven civilians among them.
Officials say the attackers were neutralized at the gate before they could penetrate the main compound, calling the swift response a significant disruption of what they believe was a larger, coordinated plot. As of now, no armed group has stepped forward to claim the assault.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, urging investigators to swiftly identify and prosecute all individuals behind the incident.
Formerly known as the Frontier Constabulary, the Federal Constabulary plays a critical role in situations that surpass regular policing ranging from tribal clashes to operations against organized criminal networks.
