Three KDF Soldiers Killed in Lamu IED Attack

Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers have lost their lives following a deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Sankuri, Lamu County.

The incident occurred along the Sankuri-Kiunga Main Supply Route while the troops were on a routine patrol, according to a statement from KDF. The explosive device detonated as the soldiers were moving through the area.

Several other soldiers sustained injuries in the blast and were promptly evacuated to specialized military medical facilities nearby. KDF confirmed that the wounded personnel are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.

In response to the attack, a multi-agency operation has been launched to track down those responsible. Security has also been tightened, with increased patrols and surveillance along all major access routes within and around the region.

KDF acknowledged the bravery of the affected soldiers and commended the swift coordination by multi-agency security teams on the ground.

“Kenya Defence Forces recognizes the courage demonstrated by the personnel and appreciates the swift response by multi-agency teams operating in the area,” read the statement.

The security situation in Lamu County remains under close watch as efforts to restore calm and apprehend the perpetrators continue.
