Tragedy struck Monday morning along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Kwambira, where a head-on collision between a passenger vehicle and a lorry left three people dead and several others injured.

The fatal crash involved a Luxury Sacco public service vehicle (PSV) heading toward Nairobi and a lorry traveling in the opposite direction from Nakuru. The collision, which occurred on one of Kenya’s busiest highways, was so forceful that the lorry overturned and both vehicles were left sprawled across the road, blocking traffic entirely.

Twisted metal and shattered glass marked the scene, as emergency responders and bystanders struggled to navigate the wreckage. Survivors from both vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries, with some trapped inside the lorry’s cabin for an extended period.

The highway, a vital link between Nairobi and western Kenya, was rendered impassable for several hours. The resulting gridlock stretched for kilometers, disrupting travel and highlighting once again the vulnerability of road users on Kenya’s transport corridors.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of the crash, though early accounts point to high speed and possible lane misjudgment as contributing factors. The incident adds to the rising toll of road accidents on the Nairobi-Nakuru route an area long criticized for poor road discipline and inadequate safety enforcement.
