A village in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, has been left in shock and mourning after the body of a missing Grade 5 pupil was discovered beheaded and dumped in a dam.

The young girl, a resident of Gwa Chobe village, had been reported missing on Saturday evening after her mother sent her to a nearby shop to purchase household supplies. When she failed to return home, family members and concerned neighbours launched an overnight search.

Their worst fears were confirmed on Sunday afternoon when her lifeless, mutilated body was found submerged in a local dam.

“We searched all night, moving from house to house hoping to find her,” said Beth Muthoni, a distraught resident. “To find her like that, beheaded and abandoned in water it’s horrifying. Why would anyone do this?”

The gruesome discovery has sparked outrage in the local community, with residents calling on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure those responsible are apprehended.

“We cannot live in fear, unable to send our children even to the nearby shop,” said another local, Susan Njeri. “The government must take urgent steps to protect our children and bring justice.”

The girl’s body was recovered from the dam and taken to the Engineer Sub-County Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
