The Teachers Service Commission has cautioned teachers and the public against a document circulating online that falsely claims the Salaries and Remuneration Commission rejected proposed changes to teachers’ Career Progression Guidelines.
According to the commission, the letter is fraudulent and does not originate from either TSC or SRC. The document had alleged that the proposed framework was turned down due to concerns over its financial implications and that the existing promotion guidelines would remain in force until a revised proposal was submitted.
TSC has dismissed the claims, reaffirming that the review of the Career Progression Guidelines is still underway. The process follows nationwide stakeholder consultations conducted in June, which gathered views from teachers, curriculum support officers, education officials and other sector players.
The commission says the review aims to modernise the framework introduced in 2016 by aligning it with evolving professional standards, technological changes and current educational needs.
Once completed, the updated guidelines are expected to tackle persistent concerns over slow career advancement, with some teachers reportedly spending decades before earning promotions. Meanwhile, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers has continued to push for the promotion of approximately 135,000 teachers across the country.
TSC has urged the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information regarding teacher promotions and policy changes.
