The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has made significant strides in the case involving a woman who was robbed and assaulted in Malaa, Machakos, on March 11, with the arrest of two key suspects. The case, which initially seemed like a straightforward road assistance scenario, has revealed a disturbing plot that was met with swift justice thanks to diligent investigative work.

According to the DCI, the victim had been driving along Kangundo Road towards her home when her vehicle skidded off the road and became stuck. As she tried to extricate her car from the mud, she was approached by two suspects and five accomplices who offered help, only to turn on her once she was vulnerable.

“The victim was driving along Ruai-Kangundo Road, heading to her residence at Malaa, when her vehicle skidded off the road and became stuck,” the detectives explained in their statement. “As she attempted to extricate her car from the mud, she was approached by the two suspects and their five accomplices, who pretended to assist her. However, their intent quickly turned sinister as they forced her into the car’s boot, taking control of the vehicle.”

The suspects then drove her vehicle along Kangundo Road, eventually stopping near Nairobi River at Kwa Mbao in Dandora, where they proceeded to assault her. Fortunately, the victim’s cries for help caught the attention of a passing motorist who intervened, causing the suspects to abandon the victim and flee with her vehicle.

“The victim was rescued by another motorist who heard her distress and came to her aid,” the DCI noted. “Fearing exposure, the suspects fled in her vehicle, abandoning the woman by the roadside.”

After being rescued, the victim was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, and the crime was reported to the Kwa Mbao Police Post. Unfortunately, she lost not only household items she had purchased but also her vehicle and money from her accounts. The psychological trauma caused by the betrayal of those who pretended to help her added to her suffering.

“Out of the mud and into the hands of the inhuman pack, the victim lost household items she had purchased, her vehicle, and money swept from her accounts. Worst still was the traumatic experience from the people she hoped were out to save her,” the DCI statement said.

Thanks to forensic analysis and relentless investigation, the DCI was able to trace the two suspects back to the crime scene. They led detectives to the Maringo area of Buruburu sub-county, where the stolen vehicle was recovered, albeit vandalized and stripped of its wheels. Other stolen items were also found.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered in Maringo, although it had been vandalized and stripped of its wheels. Other stolen exhibits were also recovered,” the DCI added.

The two suspects are now in custody, facing charges in connection with the robbery and assault, while detectives continue their search for the remaining accomplices.
