United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant for the upcoming Malava by-election, Enock Andanje, has died after collapsing during a public function on Friday.
Andanje was attending a widows’ empowerment forum in Malava, an event also attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, when he suddenly fell ill. Witnesses say he appeared unwell shortly after arriving, with his legs giving way before he could step out of his vehicle.
Efforts to revive him at the venue were unsuccessful. He was rushed to Oasis Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Malava sub-county UDA secretary Harrison Tanga confirmed the incident, adding that the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination.
Dr. Andanje was the immediate former Principal of Bungoma High School, having taken early retirement to contest the Malava by-election.
The by-election was called following the death of former MP Malulu Injendi. Andanje was among several hopefuls seeking the UDA ticket in primaries scheduled for the coming weeks.
