Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has raised alarm after a gunshot was reportedly fired near his home in Kibiko, Kabete, sparking renewed concerns over rising political tensions in the county as the holiday season approaches.
According to the governor, the incident occurred shortly after he arrived home from a morning church service on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The bullet struck a neighbour’s house roughly 40 metres from his residence, prompting police to open investigations.
Wamatangi suggested the shooting may have been deliberate, possibly an intimidation tactic or even an attempted attack. He said that moments before reaching his home, he had passed through his farm, where he encountered unknown individuals cutting trees with a power saw, an interaction he believes may have set off the chain of events.
Accompanied by several members of the county assembly, the governor condemned the incident, calling it “strange” and potentially politically driven. He urged law enforcement authorities to uncover the motive and identify those responsible.
“We need a thorough investigation so we can understand what happened and who is behind this,” he said.
Despite the scare, Wamatangi insisted he would not be cowed and called for swift action from security agencies.
A neighbour recounted hearing a loud bang around 3:30 p.m., initially thinking something had struck her roof. A closer look revealed a bullet hole punched through the iron sheets.
Sources close to the governor believe the incident could be connected to simmering political disagreements in Kiambu, including disputes over development projects and internal power struggles.
