Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has urged the government to bring Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on board, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive national leadership that reflects Kenya’s diversity.
Speaking during a political gathering in Machakos County on Monday, June 16, 2025, Wandayi made a passionate case for Kalonzo’s role in shaping the country’s future, stressing that the voice of the Kamba community must be present at the decision making table.
“We are approaching a pivotal moment as a country, and it would be a grave mistake to sideline any region or community especially one as loyal and deeply rooted in Kenya’s history as the Kamba,” Wandayi said.
He described Kalonzo as a statesman whose contribution to national politics cannot be ignored. “He has shown he’s ready. Kalonzo has done the groundwork he has prepared himself. Now, it’s time we bring him in,” Wandayi remarked, using a metaphor to suggest that Kalonzo has done all that’s necessary to earn his place in the current political setup.
The CS called for a more inclusive approach ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging leaders to look beyond party lines and embrace unity. He also lauded the Kamba community for their enduring support for Kenya’s democratic process, calling them “resilient and dependable.”
“We can’t build a united nation by leaving anyone behind. Kenya must move forward as one,” he said.
Wandayi’s remarks reflect ongoing political realignments as government-leaning leaders continue to court Kalonzo, potentially setting the stage for a broader coalition in the coming years.
