Authorities have launched investigations into two separate deaths reported in Mombasa and Nairobi this week.
In Mombasa, a suspect died shortly after being arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. Police identified him as 35-year-old Simon Warui, who had been apprehended on September 17, 2025, over allegations of stealing by a servant.
Officers said Warui appeared weak and unsettled upon arrival at the station. He later asked to use the toilet, but moments after entering, officers heard a loud noise. When they rushed to check, they reportedly found him collapsed on the floor with blood coming from his nose.
An alarm was raised and Warui was rushed to hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later transferred to the mortuary, pending an autopsy.
Police confirmed they have notified the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the case, as required for all deaths occurring within police premises. In the past, such incidents have led to officers facing charges where foul play was established.
Meanwhile, in Nairobi’s Ziwani area, police are probing the death of Abednego Wambua, whose body was discovered inside his house after neighbours broke down his door. Wambua had reportedly been missing for several days and was not answering calls.
His body, found lying beneath a heap of clothes, showed no visible injuries, police said. The cause of death will be determined after further investigations and a postmortem examination.
