Police are investigating two unrelated electrocution incidents that claimed the lives of two men in Nairobi and Kiminini, Bungoma County, over the weekend.
In the first case, a man identified as George Kivasa died after a suspected electrical shock at his residence in the Runda area of Nairobi, with early reports indicating the incident occurred as he was leaving his home.
According to police, the victim is believed to have come into contact with a clothesline stretched loosely across a doorway in the Gothogoro area, which may have become electrically charged under unclear circumstances. He collapsed immediately after the contact.
His wife and nearby residents rushed to his aid and helped transport him to a nearby clinic before he was referred to Kiambu Level 4 Hospital due to the severity of his condition. He was later pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities have since launched investigations to determine how the clothesline became electrified. The body has been preserved pending post-mortem examination.
Police have also urged the public to remain cautious around electrical fittings and report any suspected hazards to prevent similar fatalities.
In a separate incident in Kiminini, a 57-year-old man lost his life while carrying out tree-pruning work.
The victim, identified as Francis Muruli, was trimming trees along a perimeter fence when a cut branch reportedly made contact with overhead power lines, resulting in a fatal electric shock.
Officers from the police service, alongside officials from Kenya Power and Lighting Company, visited the scene and confirmed that the electrocution occurred when the fallen branch came into contact with live power cables.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
