Travellers using Kenya’s railway network are set for a more luxurious journey following the planned introduction of upgraded passenger coaches by the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC).
During a project showcase held on June 19, railway officials unveiled the new-generation coaches, highlighting a range of modern amenities designed to enhance comfort and convenience for passengers.
Among the standout features is onboard Wi-Fi, which will allow travellers to remain connected throughout their trip. Passengers will also have access to an upgraded dining experience, with meals and refreshments served directly at their seats by dedicated attendants.
Kenya Railways officials described the coaches as a major step forward in improving the quality of rail travel, noting that the new service is expected to be operational by July 2026.
The coaches have been fitted with fully reclining seats, enabling passengers to rest comfortably during overnight journeys. Blankets will also be provided to enhance comfort, particularly for long-distance travellers.
In addition, the seating layout offers increased legroom and a more spacious cabin environment compared to existing coaches. Each seat comes with an adjustable headrest and an individual entertainment screen mounted on the seatback, giving passengers access to onboard entertainment during their journey.
The upgrade forms part of Kenya Railways’ broader efforts to modernise passenger services and provide a more premium travel experience across the country’s rail network.
