Detectives have launched investigations into two separate deaths reported in Kakamega and Vihiga counties, with one involving a Grade Five pupil whose body was recovered from a pit latrine after she was reported missing.
The girl, a pupil at Lukaya Primary School in Shinyalu, disappeared on Saturday, prompting relatives and residents to begin a search. The search ended the following day when her body was found inside a pit latrine.
Police believe the minor may have been assaulted before being killed, after which her body was allegedly dumped in the latrine. Officers noted that the body had visible injuries, although the exact cause of death will be established through a post-mortem examination.
The body was taken to the mortuary as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident. By Tuesday, no suspect had been arrested and the motive remained unclear.
In a separate incident in Vihiga County, detectives are investigating the death of a 42-year-old man who reportedly succumbed to injuries days after allegedly being assaulted by a group of people.
The deceased, identified as Godfrey Ingasi, was found dead inside his house in Impaka Village, Hamisi Sub-County. Police officers who visited the scene documented injuries, including a swollen leg and bruises on his back and shoulder.
Investigations indicate that Ingasi had reported to Cheptulu Police Station on June 25 that he had been attacked by seven individuals, whom he reportedly identified to officers. He was advised to seek medical treatment following the alleged assault but later died before the matter was concluded.
His body was moved to Jumuia Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination as detectives pursue those suspected to have been involved in the assault.
Police say investigations into both incidents are ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
