Concerns over the safety of road users have intensified in Migori County after a bridge that was partially closed four months ago suffered further structural damage.

Part of the bridge has collapsed despite the earlier restrictions imposed over concerns about its structural condition, leaving the remaining section in an increasingly dangerous state.

The structure continues to be used by pedestrians and boda boda riders, even after authorities partially closed it. The continued movement across the damaged bridge has raised fears of a possible accident, particularly as more sections show signs of deterioration.

Residents and other road users now face heightened risks whenever they cross the bridge, with the latest collapse adding urgency to calls for authorities to intervene.

The partial closure introduced four months ago was intended to address concerns over the bridge’s questionable structural integrity. However, it has not fully prevented members of the public from using the crossing.

With the structure now in a more precarious condition, residents are calling for immediate action to secure the bridge and prevent a potential disaster.
