A gang of armed cattle rustlers on Thursday morning raided the Loosuk home of Dr. Haron Sirima, Director-General of Public Debt Management at the National Treasury, escaping with an unknown number of livestock.

The attackers are reported to have cut through the electric fence surrounding the compound before opening fire into the air and driving away the animals. The early morning raid prompted immediate deployment of security personnel to the area as investigations got underway.

“It is very unfortunate that the issue of cattle rustling had reduced in the region, but what happened this morning has shocked us. The gang attacked the homestead, cut the fence, and got away with the cattle,” said Edca Leparasoi, the local Nyumba Kumi leader.

No injuries were reported, but residents say this is not the first time the senior Treasury official’s homestead has been targeted, citing previous thefts and deliberate power cuts.

Local leaders and community members are now demanding urgent intervention, warning that the return of such attacks may signal a resurgence of organised cattle theft in the region.
