Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere is demanding accountability from his players following a stunning 7-1 thrashing by Sofapaka in a weekend league clash that left the brewers’ title hopes hanging by a thread.

The loss, one of the club’s heaviest in recent memory, not only shocked fans but also cast serious doubt on Tusker’s ability to keep pace in the title race with the likes of Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC.

A visibly frustrated Okere didn’t hold back after the final whistle. “I thank God the match ended, but this was by far our worst performance,” he said. Struggling to make sense of the collapse, he expressed disbelief at his team’s failure to show fight on the pitch. “We invested heavily in these players, and yet we made it so easy for Sofapaka to score. It was as if we weren’t even there.”

While acknowledging Sofapaka’s superior intent and execution, Okere was scathing in his assessment of his own squad’s display. “What we saw today is not Tusker. It’s not what this club represents. We can’t work hard all season to stay in the title conversation and then collapse like this near the end. It’s embarrassing.”

With only two matches left, Tusker’s path to glory now depends on more than just their own efforts. They must win their upcoming games against Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz and hope Kenya Police FC drop points in all their remaining fixtures.

Despite the odds, Okere insists they won’t throw in the towel. “The league isn’t over. We’ll regroup, finish strong, and see what’s possible,” he said. However, his concern over the squad’s mentality was clear. “Tusker is a club with a winning legacy. We need players who show character and hunger not the kind of disjointed, uninspired football we saw today.”

As the season enters its final stretch, pressure is mounting on Tusker’s dressing room to respond not just with results, but with pride.
