A wave of discontent rippled through Moi Girls’ High School in Kapsowar as students staged a peaceful walkout, drawing the attention of the wider Elgeyo Marakwet community.

Clad in their school uniforms, the students made their way from the school grounds into Kapsowar town, voicing their frustrations with school leadership. The unexpected exodus temporarily brought academic activities to a halt, with the learners chanting slogans that appeared to criticize the school’s principal.

One of the chants captured on video, “Our principal is hard-headed,” has since circulated widely, offering a glimpse into the students’ discontent. While the exact cause of their grievances remains unclear, the message from the protestors suggests deep-rooted dissatisfaction with the administration.

Despite the strong emotions evident in their chants and songs, the students maintained order throughout the protest. No damage to property was reported either within the school or in the town, and the protest concluded without any confrontation or unrest.

The school and education officials are yet to release a formal statement on the incident. However, the walkout has sparked conversations among parents, educators, and local leaders, with many calling for a deeper look into the concerns raised by the students.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on restoring calm and addressing the issues that led to the rare but resolute student action.
