Christians across the country and around the world are marking Good Friday today, ushering in the start of the Easter weekend a period of deep reflection, prayer, and celebration central to the Christian faith.

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary, an event that lies at the heart of Christian belief in redemption and salvation. Churches held special services throughout the day, with worshippers gathering for solemn processions, readings of the Passion, and moments of silence in honor of Christ’s suffering.

In many parts of the country, faithful observed the day through fasting and prayer, while others took part in dramatized re-enactments of the crucifixion a tradition that continues to draw large crowds, especially in rural and devout communities.

The Easter weekend which includes Holy Saturday and culminates in Easter Sunday is considered the most important period in the Christian calendar, celebrating not only Christ’s death but also his resurrection, which symbolizes hope, renewal, and victory over death.

For many, it’s also a time for family gatherings, charity, and outreach. Churches and organizations have planned Easter meals, hospital visits, and donations to the less fortunate, emphasizing the message of compassion that defines the season.

With millions expected to travel or attend church events over the weekend, authorities have urged caution on the roads and called for peaceful, reflective celebrations.
