The government has escalated its fight against banditry in Laikipia County with the launch of a new police command under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU).

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the move during a security meeting at Kirimon NYS training camp, where he confirmed the deployment of a multi-agency security team to flush out criminals hiding in Mukokodo Forest and other troubled areas.

The new command center in Kirimon will complement the existing base in Chemolingot, Baringo County, reinforcing operations in Samburu, Laikipia, Isiolo, and parts of Meru. The operation brings together the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), with support from the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), National Police Reservists (NPRs), and rangers.

CS Murkomen also issued a stern warning to politicians aiding banditry in Kerio Valley, stating they would face legal consequences. He emphasized that NPRs and rangers are under government command and should not be misused as private militias.

The government is investing in modern security technology, including aerial surveillance, night vision, and advanced protective equipment to enhance operations. Murkomen praised the progress of OMU, highlighting the restoration of peace in many areas, the reopening of schools, and the revival of economic activities.

Flanked by top security officials, including Inspector General Douglas Kanja, the CS assured residents that efforts to stabilize the remaining volatile regions would continue until lasting peace is achieved.
