The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed a fake gazette notice circulating on social media that falsely claims the commission has already declared winners for the upcoming November by-elections.
According to the forged notice, two United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates had allegedly been declared elected unopposed as Members of County Assembly for Tembelio and Metkei wards ahead of the November 27, 2025 polls.
In a statement released on Thursday, the electoral body termed the document as fake and cautioned the public against sharing or believing in unverified information.
“The Gazette Notice circulating online titled ‘Declaration of No Contest for Members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the By-Elections scheduled for 27th November 2025’ is fake. The Commission advises the public to disregard it. Visit our website and verified social media accounts for accurate information,” the IEBC stated.
The commission urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and verify all election-related updates through its official website and verified social media platforms. It warned that spreading misinformation can undermine public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the planned by-elections.
IEBC reiterated that all official announcements regarding elections will be made exclusively through its verified communication channels.
The electoral body has scheduled by-elections for November 27, 2025, covering the Baringo Senatorial seat and six parliamentary constituencies Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja as well as several county assembly wards.
