Detectives in Murang’a County have launched investigations into the brutal killing of a four-year-old boy in Kiriaini village, Mathioya constituency.
According to police reports, the child, a PP1 pupil, was discovered on Wednesday evening lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts to the head. A blood-stained panga, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered at the scene and preserved as evidence.
Shortly after the discovery, angry residents descended on a man suspected of involvement in the killing. Police officers intervened to rescue him from the mob before detaining him at a local police station. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the murder, with the suspect expected to face murder charges once inquiries are complete.
The boy’s body was taken to the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Marereni, Kilifi County, chaos erupted after an irate crowd stormed a local dispensary and forcibly took away the body of a 70-year-old man. The group accused unknown individuals of killing the man, identified as Hassan Barro.
However, police have dismissed the murder claims, saying preliminary findings show the elderly man collapsed and died while searching for his stolen cattle on Wednesday afternoon.
He was reportedly rushed to the dispensary, where he was pronounced dead. News of his death quickly spread, prompting residents to march to the facility, seize the body, and later head to a nearby police station demanding justice.
When officers tried to retrieve the body, the mob resisted and fled with it. Police said on Friday that efforts were underway to locate the body and restore calm in the area.
