In a bold effort to restore public confidence and ease growing tensions in Trans Mara, Narok County, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered a sweeping leadership reshuffle within the local security apparatus following deadly clashes that claimed five lives on Monday.

Addressing residents and local leaders during a tense security consultative forum, IG Kanja announced the immediate transfer of top police officials from the conflict-prone Ang’ata Barikoi area. Central to his directive was the removal of the area’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer, who has faced mounting criticism from the community.

“Your voices have been heard,” Kanja declared, responding to calls from residents demanding accountability. He directed DCI chief Amin Mohamed to recall the officer to police headquarters and deploy a replacement seen as better suited to serve the troubled region.

In a further effort to de-escalate tensions, the General Service Unit (GSU) commander stationed in the area will also be reassigned. The announcement was met with cheers from locals, signaling a cautious sense of relief among a community rocked by recent violence.

Beyond administrative changes, IG Kanja affirmed that a formal investigation into the fatal shootings and reported police brutality is now underway. He pledged a thorough inquiry to uncover the circumstances that led to the bloodshed and to ensure justice for all affected parties.

As the dust settles in Ang’ata Barikoi, the government’s actions signal a shift toward reconciliation and a firmer commitment to addressing long-standing grievances in the region.
