Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has issued a firm call for the immediate suspension of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat and all officers linked to the controversial death of teacher and influencer Albert Ojwang, as well as other fatalities during recent Gen Z-led protests.

Appearing on The Situation Room on Spice FM Friday morning, Kioni decried what he termed as “dangerous levels of impunity” within Kenya’s security forces and warned that the current trajectory could steer the country toward authoritarian rule.

“The officers responsible for Albert’s death must be held fully accountable,” Kioni said. “We cannot continue operating with double standards. If the OCS from Central Police Station has been interdicted, why is DIG Lagat still in office?”

He argued that allowing top security officials to remain in office amid serious allegations damages the integrity of the justice system and erodes public trust. Kioni also accused senior police leadership of engaging in deliberate cover-ups, citing what he described as a failing oversight framework and lack of political will to tackle systemic abuse.

“What happened to Albert was not an isolated incident it reflects a broken system that protects perpetrators instead of punishing them,” he remarked.

Kioni stressed the need for individual accountability within the police ranks, insisting that officers regardless of title or station must answer for violations of human rights.

“When police officers turn against the people they are sworn to protect, they forfeit the trust and authority granted to them by the public,” he added. “There is absolutely no justification for the killing of civilians in custody. None.”

The growing national outrage over Ojwang’s death, coupled with other reported cases of police brutality during the Gen Z protests, has triggered renewed calls for reform within Kenya’s security services. Kioni’s remarks now place even greater pressure on authorities to take visible and meaningful action.
