Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has called for a reassessment of Kenya’s decision to deploy police officers to Haiti, raising concerns over the conditions set by the United States for supporting the mission.

Speaking during the funeral of Officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai at Naserian in Kajiado North Constituency, Kalonzo criticized the government’s handling of the deployment, questioning whether the mission truly serves Kenya’s interests.

“Officer Kaetuai lost his life 12,500 kilometers from Kenya’s borders, in the line of duty, protecting Haitians from criminal gangs,” Kalonzo said, emphasizing the tragic reality of Kenyan officers risking their lives in a foreign crisis while the country grapples with its own security challenges.

Kalonzo, accompanied by Kajiado Governor Seki Lenku Ole Kanar and his Deputy Governor Martin Moshishio, DAP-Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, joined mourners in paying their respects to the fallen officer.

Kenya’s controversial police deployment to Haiti, which began in early 2025, has faced legal and public opposition, with critics arguing that the government ignored court rulings and public outcry. The tragic loss of Officer Kaetuai has reignited the debate, with calls for urgent government action to reconsider the mission before more lives are lost.
