Kenya and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their enduring relationship with the unveiling of a bold and future-oriented Strategic Partnership for 2025–2030. The renewed commitment underscores a shared history, mutual respect, and the dynamic potential of both nations’ people.
In high-level talks between Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the two sides outlined a comprehensive framework to expand collaboration in key areas including green growth, climate action, innovation, security, and regional stability.
“This partnership is about delivering tangible impact,” stated CS Mudavadi. “It will generate new jobs, strengthen our innovation ecosystems, and accelerate environmental sustainability. It reflects our shared ambition to build a resilient and prosperous future.”
With bilateral trade currently valued at Kshs.218 billion, the UK remains a significant economic partner. British companies are among Kenya’s top employers, and the new agreement is expected to inject renewed momentum into both economies.
On the UK side, the deal is projected to unlock Kshs.177 billion through increased export financing and growth in engineering and defence manufacturing—especially in regions such as Northampton and County Durham.
A major highlight of the partnership is Lloyd’s of London’s upcoming entry into Nairobi. The global insurance and reinsurance giant’s presence will bolster Nairobi’s standing as a regional financial hub, tapping into East Africa’s insurance market estimated to be worth up to Kshs.88 billion.
The partnership also includes a strategic agreement between Lloyd’s and the Nairobi International Financial Centre, aimed at providing Kenyan enterprises with access to specialised risk management solutions. This is expected to enhance economic resilience and stimulate new avenues for growth and investment.
Ultimately, the Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030 represents a shared commitment to innovation, economic advancement, and sustainable development paving the way for deeper, mutually beneficial engagement between the two nations.
