A Kenyan police officer attached to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti has died in a road accident, the National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed.
The officer was involved in a crash on Sunday evening, August 31, 2025, along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area. The accident, which happened around 5:00 p.m. Haitian time (2:00 a.m. Monday in Kenya), occurred during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles.
According to reports, the towing exercise went tragically wrong, leading to the officer’s death, the loss of two civilian lives, and injuries to eight other MSS personnel. Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition and are undergoing treatment in hospital.
The NPS described the death as a heavy loss, noting that the next of kin had already been informed. In its message of sympathy, the service assured the bereaved family of full support as they come to terms with the tragedy.
In the meantime, the MSS, working closely with the Haitian National Police, is coordinating the repatriation of the officer’s remains to Kenya while ensuring that the injured continue to receive specialized medical care.
