The County Government of Kiambu has taken a significant step in advancing medical education and healthcare services by introducing endoscopy technology at Kiambu Level Five Hospital. This initiative not only enhances patient care but also serves as a training hub for medical professionals from across the region, equipping them with specialized skills in minimally invasive procedures.
The newly acquired endoscopy machine enables doctors to detect early signs of esophageal cancers, ulcers, and other gastrointestinal disorders with greater accuracy. As part of the hospital’s commitment to fostering medical expertise, healthcare professionals from other counties have been invited to learn about the latest advancements in endoscopy technology.
Speaking during the inauguration of the services at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, Dr. Patrick Nyaga, Chief Officer of Health Services, emphasized the significance of this development in improving both patient outcomes and medical training.
“Dr. Nyagah said the equipment, which is one of the over 500 million pieces of equipment bought by the county government of Kiambu, will significantly reduce surgical waiting times, and importantly, it will improve the quality of care for our patients,” he said.
Additionally, Dr. Nyagah revealed that the county is already training over 20 doctors in these specialized procedures. This initiative will enable medical professionals to handle up to 30 endoscopy patients daily, strengthening the region’s healthcare capacity.
Dr. Pankajani, a retired GI surgeon from the University of Nairobi and past president of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA), underscored the importance of this program for the county, highlighting its role in building a highly skilled medical workforce.
With this initiative, Kiambu Level Five Hospital is not only enhancing healthcare access for residents but also positioning itself as a center for advanced medical training, benefiting healthcare systems beyond county borders.
