Cleophas Malala’s hopes of reclaiming his position as United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General were dashed on Monday after the High Court firmly upheld his ouster.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye ruled that Malala’s removal was lawful, quashing an earlier Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) order that had temporarily reinstated him. The court also validated the gazette notice that formalized Malala’s dismissal, delivering a crushing blow to the former Secretary General’s political ambitions within the ruling party.
“The 1st respondent’s appeal before the PPDT is hereby terminated and shall not proceed before the tribunal. Any orders previously issued in favour of the respondent are hereby vacated,” Justice Mwamuye ruled.

The decision effectively bars Malala from pursuing his case through the tribunal, closing one of the last legal avenues he had to contest the leadership changes in UDA. With the ruling, Hassan Omar’s appointment as the new Secretary General is now cemented, reinforcing the party’s leadership shake-up.
